Project Zomboid: Don a Mask, Improve Your Odds
In the unforgiving world of Project Zomboid, every bit of protection counts. Sickness can be just as deadly as a zombie horde, and one of the often-overlooked threats comes from the decaying corpses that litter the landscape. This mod, “Working Masks,” introduces a vital layer of realism and strategic depth by making various masks provide tangible protection against airborne contaminants.
Masks That Actually Work
Forget the purely cosmetic appeal of headwear. “Working Masks” imbues a selection of in-game masks with genuine protective qualities, directly impacting the sickness gain you experience when close to deceased zombies. The effectiveness of these masks is intricately tied to their condition, adding another layer of resource management to your survival efforts.
The degree of protection varies significantly depending on the type of mask you’re wearing:
- Gas Masks: Offering the highest level of defense, a pristine gas mask at 100% condition will provide complete immunity to airborne sickness from corpses.
- Surgical Masks: These provide substantial protection, offering half the defense of a gas mask when in perfect condition.
- Face Coverings: Items like balaclavas and bandanas, provided they cover both the mouth and nose, grant a smaller but still valuable 25% protection at full condition.
It’s important to note that this mod focuses on protection against zombie-related airborne threats and does not extend to hazards like engine fumes within buildings.
Expanded Compatibility
The “Working Masks” mod boasts impressive compatibility with a wide array of popular Project Zomboid modifications, including but not limited to Authentic Z, Brita’s Armor Pack, and Swatpack. This ensures that the new protective benefits seamlessly integrate with your existing gameplay experience. While masks from unsupported mods will function visually, they will not offer any additional protection unless explicitly integrated. The developers welcome suggestions for further mask support and balance adjustments.
This mod is designed to be safe to add or remove from existing save files, and feedback from multiplayer testing is actively encouraged. Enhance your survival strategy and breathe a little easier (figuratively, of course) with “Working Masks.”
