Constructing these deadly traps is a straightforward yet crucial process. First, you’ll need to prepare the ground by digging a suitable pit. Once your pit is ready, the key ingredient is the spear itself. You can outfit each trap with multiple spears, up to five, to maximize its lethality. Simply approach the dug pit with your spears in your inventory and interact with it to find the “Add Spear to Grave” option. Should you need to salvage your materials, the “Remove Spear from Grave” option allows you to reclaim your carefully placed weapons.

The Double-Edged Sword of Defense

Be warned: these traps are not for the faint of heart, nor are they exclusively a danger to the infected. While remarkably effective at dispatching zombies, they pose a significant risk to yourself and any other unwary survivors.

Key features of the Spear Traps mod include:

• Zombies stumbling into an empty pit will be knocked down, providing a brief respite or an opportunity for a follow-up attack.
• When a zombie triggers a pit armed with spears, a spear is consumed, and the infected is instantly impaled, providing a satisfying and efficient kill.
• Accidentally stepping into an empty pit will result in an injury, typically to the foot or lower leg.
• The most perilous aspect: walking over a pit armed with spears will result in instant death for players, just as it does for the undead.

For those who find the risk to players too high, the mod offers a degree of customization. Within the Sandbox settings, under “Sadistic AI Director,” you can adjust the “Spear Traps Kill Players” option. Disabling this feature will prevent instant player death, though stepping on a trap will still inflict injuries equivalent to the number of spears present.

Mastering the Spear Traps mod can fundamentally change your approach to base defense and exploration, offering a potent, albeit dangerous, new tool in your fight for survival.
