The Unexpected Network: Project Zomboid’s Portal Potties

Prepare to rethink your approach to traversal in Project Zomboid with the “Portal Potties” mod. This unique modification introduces a hidden, interconnected network of outhouses scattered across Knox County, offering a bizarre and potentially perilous method of travel.

A Network of Convenience, or Chaos?

The core concept of Portal Potties is deceptively simple: step into any outhouse, close the door, and prepare to be transported to another, randomly selected outhouse somewhere else on the map. This creates an entirely new dynamic for exploration and escape, though it’s not without its risks.

Key features of the mod include:

  • Randomized Teleportation: Instantly relocate to a different outhouse across the map.
  • Spontaneous Discovery: Outhouses are found in their usual locations, but now with a secret purpose.
  • Hazardous Arrivals: Be mindful of where you might materialize – encountering zombies upon arrival is a distinct possibility.
  • Performance Considerations: Expect minor stutters as new areas are loaded during teleportation.

Advanced Control and Customization

As you delve deeper into the world of Portal Potties, more advanced mechanics unlock. Version 2.0, the “Deluxe Edition,” allows survivors to actively manage this strange network. You can disable unwanted portals by barricading or destroying the toilets, or even create new ones by constructing small, enclosed outdoor bathrooms. Restoring disabled portals by repairing their damaged components is also within your grasp.

The “Lock In” update (Version 3.0) introduces even greater control for those with a knack for electronics. Portals can become unstable over time, but with an Electrical skill of 4, you can learn to “interlock” them. By placing a computer near a portal, you can engage its interlock, causing it to glow in the dark and smoke, signifying a set destination. This allows for more predictable travel, and by setting up interlocks on both ends of a portal, you can eliminate its cooldown entirely. However, exercise caution: destroying an interlocked computer without first disengaging the portal can have dire consequences.

This mod offers a fun, unexpected twist on surviving the zombie apocalypse in Project Zomboid, encouraging players to adapt and experiment with this unconventional form of fast travel.
