Pocket Kittens
Bring a Purrfect Companion to Your Project Zomboid Survival
The world of Project Zomboid is harsh, unforgiving, and often, overwhelmingly lonely. Scavenging for supplies, fending off the undead, and simply surviving day after day can take a toll on your character’s mental state. But what if a small, furry friend could offer a glimmer of hope and a much-needed emotional boost? Pocket Kittens introduces a charming new element to your zombie apocalypse experience, allowing you to find, adopt, and even wear adorable feline companions.
Discover and Adopt Your New Friend
Pocket Kittens adds several distinct breeds of cats that can be found roaming the more populated areas of the map, such as cities and trailer parks, though they might occasionally be spotted in forests. To bring one of these creatures into your life, you’ll need to utilize the game’s trapping mechanics. Setting up various traps, like cage traps or snares, and baiting them with items like tuna or even dead mice, can eventually lead to a successful capture.
Once you’ve secured a kitten, you can give it a permanent name and, perhaps most uniquely, fashion it into a wearable accessory.
Combat Loneliness with a Pocket Pal
The primary benefit of adopting a kitten lies in its ability to alleviate your survivor’s negative moodlets.
- **Reduce Boredom and Unhappiness:** Having a kitten equipped as a “pocket” accessory will passively lower your character’s boredom and unhappiness over time, making those long, tedious days managing your base much more bearable.
- **Customizable Benefits:** The effectiveness of these moodlet reductions can be fine-tuned through the sandbox settings, allowing you to tailor the experience to your playstyle.
- **Backpack Integration:** For those who use backpack mods like Authentic Z or Noir’s Attachments, your pocketed kitten can even be attached, continuing to provide its emotional support without taking up precious inventory space.
More Than Just a Pet
Beyond their companionship, Pocket Kittens also offers a unique collection mechanic. There are multiple breeds to discover, each with its own visual representation in the world. Collecting them all can even unlock a special achievement. For those seeking an extra layer of survival utility, an optional addon allows for the harvesting of meat from stray kittens, which can be used in recipes or as bait, though adopted kittens cannot be harvested to maintain game balance.
Pocket Kittens is designed to be safe for mid-game additions and removals, and functions seamlessly in both single-player and multiplayer environments.
