Entertain Yourself
Keep Your Survivors Entertained and Engaged
In the grim world of Project Zomboid, survival is paramount, but so is maintaining your sanity. The “Entertain Yourself” mod injects much-needed vanilla-friendly entertainment options, offering new ways to combat boredom and unhappiness while providing small, meaningful bonuses. This mod is designed to seamlessly integrate into your existing gameplay, whether you’re a solo survivor or part of a multiplayer community.
Engage in Classic Pastimes
Boredom can be as deadly as any zombie. This mod introduces several interactive items to help pass the time:
- Dice: Roll the dice and hear your character announce the outcome. Requires crafted dice and a cup.
- Flute and Banjo: Learn and play actual songs with unique animations and audio. Practice unlocks new melodies, with special advanced songs available for those with a “musical hearing” trait.
- Cards, Yoyo, Cube, and Checkers: Engage in various tabletop and handheld games. Each offers a randomized mood boost and takes varying amounts of time to complete. The Yoyo and Cube can even be used while on the move.
More Ways to Cope and Grow
Beyond traditional games, “Entertain Yourself” offers additional mechanics to keep your survivors occupied and even improve their skills:
Crossword and Wordsearch magazines are transformed into collectible, non-disappearing items that provide significant boredom and unhappiness reduction. Old magazines and newspapers can be repeatedly studied for valuable XP gains, though these sessions carry a risk of fatigue and anxiety. Characters will also interject with random famous quotes while studying, adding a touch of flavor.
In multiplayer, discover the Holy Bible and choose to either study its verses for varied outcomes or loudly proclaim them, a spectacle visible to other players. Non-skill books can be re-read with a lesser impact on your character’s moodlets. Even hard alcohol can be poured into cups for a more potent unhappiness reduction, offering a balanced approach to managing stress.
Furthermore, the mod introduces practical, albeit risky, new activities. Dissect frogs, small animals, and even zombie corpses for medical XP, but be prepared for fatigue, anxiety, and the potential for hand injury. For the truly desperate, there’s Russian Roulette, offering a chance at Aiming and Loading XP, or a swift end.
This mod provides a robust set of features designed to enhance the immersive experience of Project Zomboid by giving players more meaningful ways to interact with the world and their characters’ mental well-being.
