Companion Cats: A Feline Friend for Project Zomboid Survivors
The apocalypse doesn’t have to be a lonely affair. While Companion Dogs has provided loyal canine companions, a new addition to the family has arrived: cats! This optional add-on introduces feline friends to your Project Zomboid experience, offering a unique type of support to help you navigate the dangers of the zombie-infested world.
Meet Your New Lookout
Unlike their canine counterparts, cats in this mod are not designed for combat or manual labor. They won’t be taking down zombies or tending to your livestock. Instead, their primary role is that of a vigilant lookout. Cats possess an uncanny ability to detect the undead earlier than dogs, providing you with crucial early warnings. However, be prepared for their independent nature; these felines are known for their stubbornness and may occasionally wander off on their own pursuits, such as chasing a scurrying rat, even in the middle of a task.
Key Features of Companion Cats:
- Early Undead Detection: Receive earlier warnings of approaching zombie threats.
- Unique Companion Type: Experience a different kind of animal interaction.
- Multiple Coat Variations: Choose from five distinct coat patterns for your feline friend.
- Compatibility: Works seamlessly with dedicated and co-op servers.
- Extensive Language Support: Available in fourteen languages, matching the base mod.
Important Considerations
To bring a cat into your survival game, the base “Companion Dogs” mod is a strict requirement. Ensure you have subscribed to both mods and enabled them in your game’s main menu before fully restarting Project Zomboid. Cats can be added to existing saves and servers; stray cats will appear in areas you have previously explored. While the current iteration focuses on hunger as the primary threat to your cat, future updates are planned to include more advanced care options, such as managing illness and wounds, which will be switchable in the sandbox settings. Currently, having multiple pets follow you simultaneously is not supported, but it is on the development roadmap.
