Project Zomboid: The Only Cure – A Desperate Gamble for Survival

In the relentless world of Project Zomboid, a single bite can spell doom. But what if there was another way? The Only Cure mod introduces a brutal, high-stakes mechanic that offers a sliver of hope against the inevitable: amputation. When the infection takes hold, you’re presented with a grim choice – succumb to the virus, or take matters into your own hands and sever the infected limb.

The Harsh Reality of Amputation

When faced with the certainty of infection, this mod empowers you with the means to perform a desperate act of self-preservation. Armed with a saw, you can initiate the amputation process. The effectiveness of this procedure hinges on your preparedness. Having bandages or stitches readily available significantly increases your chances of surviving the operation. Furthermore, a tourniquet can be crucial in mitigating the damage taken post-amputation. Be warned, however: amputating an upper arm will prevent the future use of any prosthetic replacements for that limb.

Healing and Prosthetic Solutions

Successfully amputating an infected limb isn’t the end of the struggle. The healing process, or cicatrization, can be monitored through your character’s health panel. Regular cleaning of the wound with bandages is essential to aid recovery. While an incompletely healed limb might still allow for the attachment of a prosthetic, it carries the risk of random bleeding. For those missing a hand, prosthetic limbs offer a path to regain lost functionality. These can be found or crafted in medical areas, with two primary types available:

  • Hook Prosthesis
  • Arm Prosthesis

The main distinction lies in their impact on action speed; the Hook Prosthesis will result in slower actions. Equipping a prosthetic limb also initiates the slow but steady acquisition of the Prosthesis Familiarity perk, gradually improving your character’s efficiency over time.

Key Features at a Glance:

  • Perform limb amputations to combat infection.
  • Utilize bandages, stitches, and tourniquets to increase survival chances.
  • Monitor wound healing and manage cicatrization.
  • Craft or find prosthetic limbs to restore lost functionality.
  • Gain new skills and perks related to amputation and prosthetics.

The Only Cure mod injects a raw, visceral element into Project Zomboid, forcing players to make life-altering decisions in the face of overwhelming odds. Will you risk it all for a chance to continue the fight?
