Perilous Decor

Embrace the Challenge: Perilous Decor for Oxygen Not Included

Prepare for a new level of Duplicant management with the Perilous Decor mod for Oxygen Not Included. This overhaul introduces a critical gameplay element: the detrimental impact of unsightly environments on your colonists. No longer will your Duplicants tolerate squalor; they will now actively suffer the consequences of poor interior design, pushing your colony-building skills to their absolute limit.

The Ugly Truth of Uninspired Living

As the decor rating in your base plummets, so too will your Duplicants’ well-being. The Perilous Decor mod implements a tiered debuff system, ensuring that ugliness has tangible and increasingly severe repercussions.

  • Uninspired: With decor dipping below 30, Duplicants will experience a noticeable reduction in key attributes, impacting their efficiency and productivity.
  • Jaded: Crossing the threshold into negative decor ratings will amplify these attribute penalties, affect a wider range of skills, and accelerate stamina depletion, leading to quicker fatigue.
  • Demoralized: Environments below -30 decor will trigger a rapid surge in stress, making Duplicants highly susceptible to mental strain and potentially jeopardizing your carefully laid plans.

When Ugliness Becomes Dangerous

The true peril of this mod manifests at extreme decor levels. Starting at -60 decor, Duplicants will begin taking direct damage from their surroundings, akin to the effects of extreme temperatures. This environmental hazard intensifies as the decor rating drops further, making exceptionally derelict areas a genuine threat to your Duplicants’ health and survival. Only the Duplicants’ perceived decor matters, influenced by traits like “Uncultured” and “Interior Decorator,” and these penalties are only active while within the affected zones.

Navigating the Perilous Landscape

To prevent an immediate colony collapse, Perilous Decor includes several crucial balancing mechanics:

  • Starting Grace Period: New colonies are granted a 50-cycle grace period, allowing you to establish a foothold before the decor penalties kick in. This duration is adjustable.
  • Dazzled Buff: Duplicants who spend time in areas with exceptionally high decor ratings can gain temporary resistance to the negative effects of poor environments.
  • Exploration Grace: Upon arriving on a new planetoid, Duplicants will have a 10-cycle immunity to decor-related debuffs, providing essential time to assess and manage the new environment.
  • Rose Quartz Lenses: For Bionic Duplicants, a new Tier 3 skill offers a direct mitigation of these environmental penalties.

Perilous Decor transforms base aesthetics from a minor consideration into a fundamental pillar of colony survival. Are you ready to build a beautiful, and therefore safe, home for your Duplicants?
