More Emotions: Injecting Personality into Your Duplicants

Oxygen Not Included is a game of intricate systems and survival, but sometimes, it’s the little details that truly bring a colony to life. The “More Emotions” mod aims to do just that, adding a rich tapestry of new reactions and emotional states to your Duplicants, making their daily lives feel more dynamic and unpredictable. This mod goes beyond basic needs, focusing on the psychological and social interactions that can shape your colony’s atmosphere.

Waking Up and Other Unfortunate Events

Ever had a Duplicant succumb to narcolepsy at the most inconvenient moment? With “More Emotions,” fellow Duplicants won’t just ignore their napping comrade. They’ll actively try to rouse them, whether through a gentle kick or a shouted alert. However, the mod cleverly accounts for the severity of fatigue; if a Duplicant is truly exhausted, these attempts might prove futile for a short while. Beyond this, the mod introduces new animations for waking up, sleeping, and even comical or dramatic reactions to falling from significant heights. A fall of more than six tiles can now result in a temporary Concussion, impacting Attributes and increasing Stress.

Social Interactions and Duplicant Wellbeing

“More Emotions” significantly enhances the social dynamics within your base. Duplicants will now offer psychological support to their stressed-out colleagues, providing a much-needed Stress reduction and a morale boost. Conversely, witnessing a Duplicant make a mess can lead to shared amusement, though this might indirectly increase the perpetrator’s stress. The grim reality of death is also addressed, with Duplicants reacting with horror to corpses and occasionally mourning near graves, offering a small morale bonus.

Key features of the “More Emotions” mod include:

  • Interactive wake-up calls for narcoleptic Duplicants.
  • New greetings and sleeping animations for a more varied Duplicant experience.
  • Concussion status effect from significant falls, impacting performance.
  • Psychological assistance offered between Duplicants to manage stress.
  • Reactions to messes, corpses, and the use of various machines.
  • New, distinct Duplicant emotions for needing the toilet or a shower.
  • Resurrected animations for eating contaminated food or using specific machines.

Bringing Back Lost Nuances

This mod also resurrects previously existing, but removed, Duplicant animations. These include reactions to consuming contaminated food or using certain facilities like the Water Cooler or Soda Fountain. These subtle touches add layers of realism and personality to your Duplicants, making them feel less like programmed units and more like individuals navigating the harsh realities of asteroid life. The mod offers extensive configuration options, allowing you to tailor the experience to your preference.
