Managing your critter population in Oxygen Not Included is crucial for sustainability. Sometimes, you may find yourself with an abundance of eggs, or perhaps you need to temporarily halt hatching to avoid overpopulation or to carefully control your resource intake. The Egg Cryopreservation mod introduces a vital new building to your duplicant colony, designed specifically for this purpose. This mod offers a safe and controlled environment to store your valuable eggs, preventing them from hatching until you deem the time is right.
How Egg Cryopreservation Works
At its core, the Egg Cryopreservation building acts as a specialized incubator that freezes eggs. As long as the building receives a consistent power supply, it actively works to maintain a state of suspended animation for the eggs within. A “Cryo Efficiency” meter will slowly climb to 100%, indicating optimal preservation. However, if the power fails, this efficiency will drop. Below 25% Cryo Efficiency, the eggs will revert to their normal incubation cycle and begin to hatch, so maintaining power is key to your preservation efforts.

- Power Consumption: Operates on 150 W of power.
- Heat Output: Generates 700 DTU/s of heat, which can be managed within your colony’s thermal systems.
- Dimensions: A compact building, measuring 2 tiles wide and 3 tiles tall.
- Egg Capacity: Can store up to a customizable maximum of 50 eggs, with the ability to select specific egg types through an intuitive menu, similar to Storage Lockers.
- Logic Outputs: Provides two crucial logic outputs: one to indicate if the machine is operational and another to signal if the storage is full.
Vanilla-Friendly and Customizable
This mod has been designed with compatibility in mind. It seamlessly integrates with the base game of Oxygen Not Included and is safe to add to existing save files without disruption. For advanced users, the maximum egg storage limit can be adjusted by editing the configuration file, offering further customization to suit your colony’s specific needs. While the in-game egg status may still display “incubating,” rest assured that the cryopreservation process effectively halts any progress towards hatching.
