Backwalls

Elevate Your Base Aesthetics with Backwalls for Oxygen Not Included

Tired of the same old solid walls in your Oxygen Not Included bases? Wish you could add a touch more flair and functionality to your construction projects? The Backwalls mod introduces a revolutionary way to decorate and seal your colonies, allowing you to build all standard tiles on the background layer, instantly boosting your base’s decor rating.

Unleash Your Inner Interior Designer

This ingenious mod lets you place any tile you’ve unlocked directly onto the background layer. Once constructed, you gain the freedom to choose the visual appearance of these backwalls, completely independent of their functional properties. Whether you’re aiming for a sleek, modern look or a cozy, rustic feel, the choice of visual style is yours, with each backwall providing a valuable +10 decor bonus in a small radius.

Introducing New Construction Options

The Backwalls mod enriches your building options with two distinct new structures, both conveniently located in the Base menu:

  • Decorative Backwall: Crafted from 10kg of Raw Mineral, this option focuses purely on aesthetics and decor. It’s a simple yet effective way to enhance the ambiance of any room without affecting environmental seals.
  • Sealed Backwall: Requiring 100kg of Raw Mineral and 5kg of Transparent material, this variant offers both aesthetic improvements and crucial functional benefits. Importantly, it effectively blocks air and liquid loss into space, providing a vital layer of protection for your sensitive areas. Research for the Sealed Backwall is unlocked via the Hazard Protection technology tree.

The mod also features a handy “Copy building settings” tool, allowing you to quickly apply your chosen visual styles and settings across multiple backwalls, streamlining your construction process.

Enhanced Mod Compatibility

The Backwalls mod is designed with extensive compatibility in mind, ensuring a smooth integration with many other popular modifications for Oxygen Not Included. It seamlessly works with mods that add new tile types, allowing those custom tiles to be used as backwalls. Furthermore, it plays nicely with mods that hide pipes behind walls and even those that allow items to fall through tiles, retaining those unique functionalities for your backwall constructions.
