Historical Context: The Rzhev–Vyazma Campaign
The Rzhev Memorial commemorates the Soviet soldiers involved in the Rzhev–Vyazma campaign, a series of intense battles fought between January 1942 and March 1943. Following the Battle of Moscow, the Red Army launched multiple offensives to push back German forces. These operations, though ultimately successful in forcing a German withdrawal, came at an immense cost, with millions of casualties on both sides. The sheer scale of the fighting and the sacrifices made have cemented this campaign as one of the bloodiest of the Second World War. Incorporating the Rzhev Memorial mod allows players to acknowledge and reflect upon this significant historical event within the context of their own developing Soviet Republic.
