The Useful NPCs mod offers a convenient solution by introducing a cast of specialized characters who make acquiring difficult-to-obtain goods a breeze. This mod is designed to streamline your progression, allowing you to focus on the thrilling challenges tModLoader has to offer without getting bogged down by repetitive resource gathering.

Meet the Helpful Residents

Each of these new NPCs arrives with a unique set of wares, catering to different stages of your adventure and specific needs.

The Dealer

This shrewd merchant appears after you’ve conquered the Slime King. While his prices are significantly marked up – sometimes doubling the normal cost – he stocks the complete inventories of the Traveling Merchant, Skeleton Merchant, and Santa Claus. He also offers a selection of crates. Importantly, the Dealer respects boss progression, meaning you won’t be able to purchase advanced items like the Pulse Bow until you’ve defeated all three mechanical bosses.

The Builder

No prerequisites are needed for this handy individual. The Builder provides a wide array of common and rare blocks, along with various furniture pieces and paintings, including some items typically found with the Traveling Merchant.

The Alchemist

Once your town boasts at least three NPCs, the Alchemist will set up shop. They offer a diverse range of potion ingredients and pre-made potions. To maintain game balance, the Alchemist only sells items that are relatively easy to acquire through normal gameplay, ensuring they don’t disrupt boss progression.

The Old Champion

Defeat the Eye of Cthulhu, and the Old Champion will emerge. This veteran warrior sells summons for bosses, rare enemies, and events. They also stock souls and valuable rare drops. Similar to the Dealer, the Champion will only offer boss summons after you’ve successfully defeated the corresponding boss or event.

Hephaestus

Also appearing after defeating the Eye of Cthulhu, Hephaestus specializes in underground treasures. They sell ores, gems, and other valuable items typically found while delving deep, offering only those items appropriate for your current stage of the game.

Shooting Star

Discover a glowing mushroom biome, and you’ll soon meet the Shooting Star. She offers a unique selection of jukeboxes, including both original and otherworldly variants. Notably, she can sell Hardmode jukeboxes even before you reach Hardmode.

The Martian

Once you’ve survived the Martian Madness invasion, the Martian will arrive. Their inventory includes mounts, biome keys, and valuable boss expert drops. Be prepared, as these expert drops come at a steep price of 5 platinum coins each!
