Umbra redefines the concept of a difficulty mod by allowing you to meticulously tailor the experience to your preferences. Whether you seek a precisely calibrated challenge or wish to test your limits by activating every available modifier, Umbra provides the tools to craft your ideal level of adversity.

Earning and Spending Umbral Power

As you conquer enemies throughout your tModLoader adventures, you will accumulate “Umbra points.” These points are the currency through which you’ll shape the mod’s difficulty. You can earn them gradually with every fallen foe or discover them as rare drops. To spend your hard-earned points, simply access the dedicated Umbra interface via your inventory. Here, you’ll find the “Umbral tree,” a visual representation of all available difficulty-enhancing nodes.

Navigating the Umbral Tree

Activating a node is as simple as left-clicking it. Nodes that are ready to be allocated will flash, indicating their availability. Be aware that some nodes require more than a single Umbra point to unlock. Should you reconsider a choice, you can de-allocate a node, provided no other activated nodes depend on it. However, note that you will only be refunded half of the points initially spent on that node.

The Boon of Doom

Every node you allocate not only increases the difficulty but also grants you “Doom.” This unique mechanic enhances your luck and increases the quantity of loot you receive from defeated enemies. You can easily view the specific benefits of your accumulated Doom by hovering over the Doom indicator within the Umbral tree interface.
