The Hollow’s primary offensive tool is his ability to generate a swarm of blue flies. The number of flies he can manifest, up to a maximum of five, scales directly with his tear rate, meaning faster firing speeds lead to a more formidable aerial assault. Complementing this swarm is his control over a red locust. This powerful projectile can be launched forward like a tear, shattering obstacles like poops and TNT barrels, and dealing The Hollow’s base damage to any enemies it strikes. Mastering the interplay between these two offensive styles is key to survival.
Altered Item Interactions and Progression
Playing as The Hollow means adapting to a unique set of item and pickup interactions:
- Red hearts no longer spawn, but instead transform into blue spiders, adding another layer to his offensive potential.
- Bone hearts are replaced entirely by black hearts, altering defensive strategies.
- The Hollow cannot receive traditional HP-up items. Instead, they grant him a soul heart and permanently increase his maximum fly count.
- Eternal hearts provide only a single soul heart.
- Trinkets are handled differently: any trinket related to flies is instantly consumed, granting The Hollow its effect permanently.
- Items that modify tear effects will instead apply those modifications to The Hollow’s flies, leading to explosive new synergies.
