The Core of Layla’s Mechanics

Layla’s combat revolves around a fascinating stance-switching system: Awake, Sleep, and Anxiety.

In her default **Awake** state, Layla builds “Pressure” by taking damage or drawing “Topics.” While in this state, playing Attack cards can generate “Lucid Dream,” a resource crucial for her Sleep phase. Reaching a Pressure threshold of 5 transitions her into the volatile **Anxiety** state. Here, Pressure becomes a source of immense power, granting extra Energy but at the cost of her own HP at the end of each turn. The key is to manage this stress and avoid collapsing.

The **Sleep** state offers a unique respite. Entering Sleep can clear accumulated Pressure, heal Layla, and with sufficient “Lucid Dream,” she can even attack enemies while slumbering. Cards with the “Sleepwalking” keyword gain special effects during this state, and the “Evening Star” system allows her to passively accumulate celestial energy that can be unleashed as damaging “Shooting Stars.”

Astrology and Knowledge at a Price

Layla’s gameplay is further enriched by the “Topic” and “Pressure” system. Drawing “Topics” represents accumulating knowledge, which increases her Pressure. However, playing or exhausting these Topics alleviates that Pressure, creating a push-and-pull dynamic that requires careful deck management. Successfully navigating these systems means finding the sweet spot between being overwhelmed by stress and lacking the power to fight back.
