Mastering the Fiend’s Unique Mechanics
The core of the Fiend’s power lies in its reliance on zero-cost cards. However, this comes at a price: the Fiend begins each run with a limited energy pool. Thankfully, a special starting relic helps to alleviate this constraint as you progress, ensuring your powerful cards become accessible. Many of these cost-free cards come with a potent side effect – generating Stress and Flesh.
Stress acts as a volatile resource. Reaching the limit of 5 Stress can leave you vulnerable, preventing you from drawing cards for a turn. While one relic offers a way to expand this limit to 10, managing your Stress is crucial for survival.
Flesh, on the other hand, is the Fiend’s primary resource. It not only provides a defensive bonus, reducing incoming damage, but also fuels a variety of powerful card effects. Cards may directly consume Flesh for potent abilities, or their effectiveness can scale dramatically with the amount of Flesh you possess. The Fiend’s design even allows for offensive applications of Flesh, enabling diverse combat strategies beyond mere self-preservation.
