Rhine Lab: A Scientific Powerhouse Joins Slay the Spire

Prepare to delve into the cutting edge of Slay the Spire with the Rhine Lab mod, a substantial addition that introduces a new playable character and a wealth of new content. Hailing from the acclaimed “Arknights” universe, Rhine Lab brings a unique scientific and experimental approach to the Spire’s treacherous ascent. This mod isn’t just a new coat of paint; it’s a complete overhaul, offering a fresh perspective with new cards, relics, enemies, and even a secret dungeon to explore.

Unleashing Upgrade Affinity

The cornerstone of the Rhine Lab experience is the innovative “Upgrade Affinity” mechanic. When you choose to upgrade a card, you’re presented with a choice of affinities: Saria, Kristen, Muelsyse, or No Affinity. This decision significantly impacts how your cards function and synergizes with other Rhine Lab mechanics. While temporary upgrades and reward cards default to “No Affinity,” your campfire becomes a vital tool for strategic customization, allowing you to freely modify the affinity of one upgraded card per rest.

Key Mechanics and Terminology

The Rhine Lab mod introduces a host of new keywords and mechanics that redefine gameplay:

  • Gravity: This dynamic effect alters attack power each turn, creating a fluctuating combat environment. Certain cards can manipulate Gravity, influencing the ebb and flow of damage.
  • Calcium: A resource that accumulates during combat, providing damage and Block bonuses to Saria-affinity cards. It slowly depletes each turn, demanding careful management.
  • Flowing Shape: This buff allows for the playing of copied cards with a percentage of its layered value when you play Saria or Kristen affinity cards.
  • Research Progress: Gaining Research Progress leads to layers of Perturbation, which in turn grants increasingly potent Metal and Thorn effects.
  • Water Damage: Inflicting Water Damage on enemies can lead to the potent “Submersion” status, severely weakening their attacks and dealing damage over time. Four stacks of Submersion mean instant defeat for the enemy.
  • Star Ring: A volatile relic that deals damage to all parties at the start of each turn and explodes upon being broken, dealing significant damage based on lost health.
  • Smash: Attacks dealing significant damage can inflict “Stunned” on enemies, a debuff that reacts to Gravity changes and alters enemy behavior.

A Deep and Engaging Experience

Beyond its core mechanics, the Rhine Lab mod boasts a significant amount of content. With 73 normal cards, 4 colorless cards, and numerous derivative cards, the deck-building possibilities are vast. Furthermore, 20 new relics, 5 unique events, and 15 new enemies await, ensuring that each run feels fresh and challenging. The mod’s creators have even included configurable enemy spawn rates, allowing you to tailor the difficulty to your liking. Dive into the scientific endeavors of Rhine Lab and forge your path to the Spire’s summit!
