You’ll have the opportunity to hire employees, utilize their abilities, and then strategically “lay them off” to bring in new talent. This creates a dynamic push-and-pull, forcing players to constantly adapt their strategy based on their available resources and the current board state.

Key Gameplay Mechanics

The Wang Lao Ju Mod introduces several new keywords and mechanics that define the WangLJ character’s playstyle:

• Worker (Employee): These cards represent your hired help. They reside in the discard pile, offering unique benefits but do not return to your draw pile unless specific conditions are met.
• Layoff: This powerful action allows you to exhaust a set number of cards from your discard pile. If an exhausted card is a Worker, a copy is added to your draw pile. If not, a “Rabble” card is added instead. This action also lets you draw cards, simulating the cycle of hiring and firing.
• Apostasy: A situational keyword that triggers a Layoff of three cards when you play a card with this keyword, provided it’s different from the last card played. This encourages varied card sequencing.
• Avatar: Transform into legendary characters from Wang Lao Ju’s videos. Avatars grant temporary health and special combat effects, but they move to the discard pile when you switch to another or their temporary health is depleted.
