Wetlands

Deepen Your Civilization VI Experience with the Wetlands Mod

For far too long, the rich potential of wetlands has been an underdeveloped aspect of Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. While Marshes offer a minor boost to Food, these vital ecosystems, historically crucial for sustenance and resources, have lacked depth. The Wetlands mod aims to rectify this, introducing a wealth of new gameplay mechanics and features that bring these unique biomes to the forefront of your civilization’s development. This comprehensive overhaul, requiring the Gathering Storm expansion, significantly enhances the strategic value and visual appeal of wetlands across your maps.

Expanding the Tundra and Introducing New Resources

One of the most striking additions is the introduction of Tundra Floodplains. These functional floodplains can now appear in colder climates, offering the familiar benefits of flood yields while also providing a base +1 Food. This opens up new strategic possibilities for civilizations settling in previously less desirable tundra regions. Beyond this, the mod introduces new bonus resources and features designed to boost Production in wetland areas.

Discover ‘Peat,’ a new bonus resource that can be improved by Farms and harvested for Production once Machinery is researched. It can appear on Marsh and Floodplains in both Plains and Tundra biomes. Furthermore, the ‘Swamp’ feature can now replace Floodplains in Grass, Desert, and Tundra tiles, providing significant Food and Production when improved and harvested after researching Iron Working. The mod also boasts custom artwork for these new elements, enhancing the visual immersion of your game.

New Improvements for Strategic Advantage

The Wetlands mod doesn’t stop at new resources; it also brings innovative new improvements to your cities. The ‘Oasis Garden’ offers a versatile improvement for Oases, initially providing Food and Gold, and later developing into a source of Production and Tourism. Complementing this, the ‘Irrigation Farm’ is a new improvement built on Desert Floodplains, sharing its graphics with the Oasis Garden and functioning similarly to standard Farms.

For Marsh and Floodplain tiles, the ‘Reed Home’ offers a unique approach. While it provides a steady +1 Food and +1 Production at Mercantilism, it doesn’t benefit from technological upgrades to Food yields. However, its resilience against natural disasters makes it a reliable and secure improvement, particularly valuable in flood-prone areas. All these new features are designed to integrate seamlessly with any map script, ensuring a consistent and engaging experience regardless of your map generation choices.
