Enhance Your Civilization VI Strategy with Unit Limit Enforcement

Tired of a cluttered battlefield in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI? Overwhelmed by endless waves of units generated by the AI? The Unit Limit Enforcement mod offers a streamlined solution, bringing a new level of strategic depth by dynamically controlling the number of units each civilization can field. This mod aims to curb excessive unit spam, leading to a more balanced and engaging gameplay experience.

How Unit Limit Enforcement Works

This innovative mod introduces a system where each civilization operates under specific caps for various unit categories. These limits are not static; they dynamically adjust as you expand your empire, build more districts, and construct key buildings. The core mechanic revolves around a clever implementation that prevents the production of new units once a category’s limit is reached. When your unit count falls below the threshold, or if your empire’s growth unlocks a higher limit, unit production will resume seamlessly.

The mod categorizes units into four primary groups for limit application:

  • Land Combat Units
  • Naval Combat Units
  • Support Units
  • Religious Units

In addition to these broader categories, specific civilian units also have individual limits, including Settlers, Builders, and Naturalists.

Under the Hood: A Seamless Integration

The mod achieves its functionality by assigning a prerequisite “building” to all units. When a civilization is within its unit limits, this prerequisite is present in cities, enabling unit production. Once a limit is met or exceeded, this prerequisite is removed, halting further production of that unit type. Importantly, the mod ensures that existing units are not removed if a civilization temporarily surpasses its cap. This system is designed to be highly compatible, even with custom units, provided they fit within the standard unit classifications.

Customization and Compatibility

A key feature of Unit Limit Enforcement is its flexibility. The default limits are clearly documented within the mod files, allowing players to easily tweak values to suit their preferred playstyle. Navigate to the mod’s directory within your Steam workshop folder and edit the `TCUnitLimit.lua` file to customize these variables. This mod is designed to be compatible with existing DLC and other mods, including popular overhauls, ensuring a smooth integration into your existing Civilization VI setup. By removing certain building prerequisites, it also streamlines the production of some units, allowing them to be built based solely on technological or civic advancements.
