Unleash Vengeance with the Spider Nest Civilization in Civilization VI

Prepare to weave a web of strategic domination with the Spider Nest Civilization, led by the formidable Matthias, in Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. This mod introduces a unique playstyle centered around calculated retribution and territorial expansion, offering a fresh challenge for seasoned players. Matthias’s abilities are designed to punish aggressors and empower his own forces, making a strong defense the ultimate offense.

Matthias: The Architect of Vengeance

Matthias’s core mechanic revolves around the **Vengeance Ledger**. When any hostile faction incurs his wrath – by attacking units, pillaging improvements, or assaulting cities – they are marked for a set duration. This ledger is crucial, as it primes Matthias’s units for devastating counter-offensives.

When a land combat unit is attacked by a faction in the Vengeance Ledger, it gains the **”Come Here”** status. This empowers the unit significantly:

* **Defensive Strength:** +2 Combat Strength when defending.
* **Offensive Power:** +3 Combat Strength during its next melee attack, with an additional +2 for each adjacent friendly land combat unit (up to +6).
* **Positional Control:** Successful attacks can push the enemy back one tile, and targets unable to retreat suffer bonus damage.

The **”Crossed Out of the Ledger”** ability rewards successful retaliation. When a unit with “Come Here” defeats a Ledger-marked enemy, you gain Gold equal to half the target’s base Combat Strength. Furthermore, adjacent friendly land combat units receive a vital 10 HP heal.

The **”So-Called Family…”** status adds another layer of synergy. When a friendly land combat unit is attacked or killed, adjacent high-level friendly land combat units gain a potent +5 Combat Strength when attacking for 5 turns. This bonus, along with its duration, can stack. Defeating an enemy with this status heals 20 HP and grants adjacent friendly units a massive +100% combat experience for 2 turns.

Spider Nest Civilization: Rapid Expansion and Cultural Might

The **Ring Finger Corridor Technology** ability fuels the Spider Nest’s growth. Cities expand their borders 100% faster, and tile purchases are halved in cost. Improved tiles provide a significant +3 Culture, while tiles between 4 and 5 tiles from the Capital generate +1 Culture and +1 Faith. Every border expansion from the Capital also grants a welcome boost of 10 Culture and 10 Science.

The **Spider Nest District**, replacing the Government Plaza, is a unique and powerful structure only buildable in the Capital. It grants 2 Governor Titles upon completion, boosts Capital Loyalty by +100 per turn, and provides a generous +3 adjacency bonus to all surrounding districts. Domestic Trade Routes to the Spider Nest city offer substantial yields of Production, Culture, Food, Faith, and Gold, further enhanced by government buildings constructed within it. Land combat units stationed on or adjacent to the Spider Nest gain experience rapidly.

Unique Government Buildings: Strategic Depth

The Spider Nest boasts three unique government buildings:

* **La Gou:** Provides 2 Governor Titles, +2 Amenities to cities with an established Governor, and a 10% yield bonus to the Spider Nest city.
* **Puppet Army:** Grants 2 Governor Titles and allows all combat units to be purchased with Faith, with Faith-purchased units in the Spider Nest city gaining significant experience and early combat bonuses.
* **Completion of Selflessness:** Awards 3 Governor Titles and unlocks the devastating **”Selflessness” Project**. During wartime, this project can target an enemy city, inflicting massive Loyalty loss, reducing its population to 1, destroying defenses, pillaging districts and buildings for significant Gold, and annihilating all enemy units within its territory. Repeated use of this project on the same city leads to its immediate destruction.
