Tap into Nature’s Bounty: Project Zomboid’s Trees Have Loot Mod

The world of Project Zomboid is unforgiving, but survival often hinges on resourcefulness. Now, a clever new mod, “Trees Have Loot,” breathes new life into the seemingly static wilderness, transforming every tree into a potential source of vital supplies. Forget staring blankly at bark; this mod adds an engaging new layer of interaction with the environment.

Scavenge and Stumble Upon Hidden Treasures

The core of this mod lies in its “Search in Tree” mechanic. By interacting with a tree, your survivor will initiate a search. This action is not a guaranteed success, but rather a roll of the dice. Succeed, and you might find anything from essential branches and twigs to more surprising finds. The loot tables are dynamically adjusted based on the in-game season and temperature:

  • Winter: Expect to find basic materials like twigs and branches.
  • Autumn: Alongside wood, a few bugs may be discovered.
  • Spring: The bounty increases with more bugs and, for larger trees, the chance of finding wild eggs.
  • Summer: This season offers the most potential, with numerous bugs and a higher chance of valuable wild eggs from larger trees.

Further enhancing the realism and challenge, searching larger trees without gloves can result in minor hand injuries. Additionally, the act of gathering resources, even small twigs, will slightly deplete your character’s endurance.

Harvesting Branches and Unexpected Finds

Beyond simply searching, the “Cut Branch from Tree” feature allows for more direct resource acquisition. Equipping a sharp knife or an axe enables you to harvest branches. However, to maintain balance, trees have a finite amount of harvestable branches, with a chance each attempt that the tree will be depleted for a period of 30 days.

This harvesting process isn’t without its own set of surprises. Pine trees might yield pine cones, the fall of which is influenced by your character’s strength. In a darkly humorous twist of fate, you might even find dead squirrels or birds dropping from the branches! The tool you use also matters: axes will drop branches to the ground for collection, while knives add them directly to your inventory. Both methods carry a slight risk of weapon durability loss and will mildly increase player fatigue.
