How the Game Works

Hearts of UNO is designed for both singleplayer and multiplayer, allowing you to face off against AI opponents, human players, or a combination of both. It’s recommended to play at a slower game speed to fully enjoy the UNO matches. A single host manages each UNO game, and lobbies are set up for up to six players. Each participant begins with seven cards, and the game unfolds according to familiar UNO rules, with a few HOI4-specific adjustments.

  • Automatic UNO Declaration: Due to engine limitations, the mod automatically handles the “UNO” declaration, so you won’t need to worry about shouting it yourself!
  • Custom Rule: A unique rule allows players to defend against a +4 card by playing a +2, provided the colors match.
  • Sound Effects: Experience fun sound effects for various card plays, enhancing the gameplay atmosphere.
  • Automatic Endings: The game concludes automatically when a player runs out of cards, with the option to start a new match immediately.

Engine Limitations and Customizations

The mod creator has worked within the constraints of the Hearts of Iron IV engine. Notably, the engine doesn’t allow for precise sound targeting, meaning sound effects play globally for all players in the session, even those not participating in the UNO game. While the mod technically supports all HOI4 languages, all in-game text is in English, with an existing Polish translation. Further community translations are welcome.

Mod Compatibility and Support

The creator believes the mod should be compatible with most other Hearts of Iron IV modifications, but welcomes community feedback on specific compatibility issues.
