This mod fundamentally shifts Wolfgang’s gameplay loop towards proactive combat, making every encounter a potential source of power.

Mastering Courage: Gain and Loss

Building Courage is a dynamic process centered around combat.

• Aggressive Offense: Landing consecutive melee hits builds a combat combo, granting progressively more Courage. The key is to stay in the fight and press your advantage.
• Victorious Kills: Defeating monsters provides a significant Courage boost, with larger and more formidable foes offering greater rewards. A kill also pauses the passive drain of your Courage.
• The Cost of Hesitation: Letting your guard down is costly. Taking damage not only resets your combo but also drains Courage. Consecutive hits trigger a “Fear Spiral,” leading to increasingly severe Courage loss and panicked dialogue.

New Mechanics for a Braver Wolfgang

This rework introduces several new mechanics that deepen the combat experience:

• Courageous Roar: At maximum Courage and facing multiple enemies, your next melee attack unleashes a devastating area-of-effect roar, dealing significant damage and shaking the very ground.
• Coward Panic: Hitting zero Courage leaves Wolfgang vulnerable. For a brief period, he cannot attack, can only move and dodge, and suffers sanity loss.
• Wimpy Vulnerability: When Wolfgang’s Courage is low, he becomes significantly more susceptible to damage, making survival a real challenge.
• Gentle Giant: Harming passive creatures now actively drains Courage, reinforcing Wolfgang’s role as a powerful warrior, not a brute.

Skill Tree Enhancements

The skill tree has been revamped to complement the Courage system. New perks like “Courageous Aura” allow Wolfgang to influence nearby allies based on his current Courage level, bolstering their damage and sanity or hindering them in his moments of weakness. Other skills focus on weapon durability and regaining footing after near-death experiences.

Seamless Transformations
