The mod introduces several distinct modes, each offering a unique balance of features and performance. Whether you prefer a direct replication of classic map sharing or a more resource-light experience, there’s an option tailored to your server’s needs.

Mod Modes Explained

Global Positions – Remapped provides three configurable modes, accessible through the main menu’s mod options:

• Map Share: This mode closely mirrors the functionality of its predecessor, making the icons and names of other players visible on your map regardless of distance. It cleverly syncs map updates with player movement speed to prevent visual clutter from lagging behind. Crucially, all players’ discoveries contribute to your map, though it’s not retroactive for areas explored before you joined the server or a specific shard.
• Easy Cartography: For servers prioritizing performance, this ultra-lightweight mode offers a novel approach. While individual exploration isn’t shared automatically, the new Cartographer’s Desk becomes a central hub. You can save your map progress to the desk and combine it with maps saved by others, effectively filling in the blanks. This mode is retroactive, allowing new players to immediately access previously mapped areas by interacting with a saved desk. Map scrolls also remain a viable option for manual sharing.
• Both (Default): This comprehensive mode combines the strengths of both Map Share and Easy Cartography. It provides the real-time visibility of Map Share while leveraging the Cartographer’s Desk for retroactive map completion, ensuring no survivor is ever left in the dark about the explored world.

Key Features and Considerations

Global Positions – Remapped is designed with efficiency in mind, utilizing modern techniques to reduce system load. While the mod icon is borrowed from its inspiration, all other functionalities have been rebuilt from the ground up. It’s important to note that this mod does not include pings; for that feature, a separate mod is recommended. Future updates aim to include more robust joining functionality and potential options for icon visibility in Easy Cartography mode, further enhancing the collaborative survival experience in Don’t Starve Together.
