Her core stats are designed to be configurable, allowing players to tailor her resilience and hunger to their preferred playstyle. From a starting health pool that can be adjusted to fit the difficulty, to hunger and sanity levels that can be fine-tuned, Alula offers flexibility from the very beginning of a new game.

Her initial inventory provides a glimpse into her past and her innate abilities:

• A treasured Gold Feather, a constant reminder of her origins.
• A trusty Fishing Rod, reflecting her fondness for aquatic sustenance and pastimes.

Unique Mechanics for a Unique Survivor

Alula’s gameplay is defined by a series of engaging mechanics that set her apart. Her connection to birds is evident in her ability to attract them and even sense danger from afar, giving her an edge against the dangers lurking in the Constant. Her innate resilience to the elements also provides a significant advantage during harsh weather conditions, keeping her cool in the summer heat and dry in the pouring rain.

However, her deep empathy for birds introduces a unique challenge. Alula experiences a drain on her sanity when near caged birds or if she harms one, adding a layer of moral consideration to her survival. This “Guilty Conscience” mechanic forces players to think twice about exploiting avian companions.

Craftable Comforts and Collections

As players guide Alula through the perils of Don’t Starve Together, they can craft items that further enhance her abilities or bring comfort. The Calamus doll, a representation of her beloved brother, can be crafted to offer companionship. Players can also craft additional Gold Feathers, perhaps to share with friends, and a faster Blue Fishing Rod, a nod to the comforts of her former home. Alula’s dietary preferences lean towards fish and seeds, granting her bonuses, while meat and mushrooms prove less favorable. Her ultimate delight?
