The Flayed Backport
The Flayed: A New Terror in Darkest Dungeon
Prepare yourselves, adventurers, for a chilling addition to your Darkest Dungeon experience. The Flayed mod introduces a formidable new roamer, a figure shrouded in mystery and menace, who stalks the various regions of the estate. This imposing woman, adorned with a peculiar obsession for head trinkets, promises a significant challenge and a unique set of rewards for those brave enough to confront her.
Encountering The Flayed
The Flayed doesn’t simply appear; she makes her presence known through a challenging tutorial quest. This quest, designed to test your mettle, cleverly utilizes the Courtyard’s Bloodlight mechanic in place of the usual Eclipse effect, offering a fresh strategic puzzle. Successfully navigating this introductory trial is key to unlocking the full potential of this mod.
Mod Features
The Flayed mod brings several exciting elements to Darkest Dungeon:
- A terrifying new roamer, a “big scary woman,” who can be encountered in various regions.
- A difficult tutorial quest specifically designed to introduce and challenge players with this new antagonist.
- An original, atmospheric theme music that accompanies The Flayed’s encounters, amplifying the dread.
- A unique trinket awarded upon completion of the tutorial quest, offering a tangible reward for overcoming her trials.
Installation and Compatibility
Players should be aware of specific installation requirements, particularly concerning other backport mods. If you have Wildlander’s Backport installed, this mod must be loaded above it to prevent data overwrites. While not a requirement, this ensures proper functionality.
Regarding audio, the included battle theme is incompatible with any mods that alter the background music of vanilla areas. If you utilize mods like Dark Imagine’s Music For Bosses or other BGM changers, ensure this mod is loaded below them.
Pleasingly, The Flayed mod is compatible with the Yngolian Backport. Loading Yngolian above this mod will allow you to enjoy both theme musics, enriching your auditory experience.
Known Issues
Be prepared for a slight quirk during the tutorial quest: expect to see frequent bleed resist pop-ups. This is a necessary workaround for the Ecliptic Grasp mechanic and is anticipated to be resolved once official Darkest Dungeon modding tools are released.
This mod was brought to life through the collaborative efforts of testers, designers, and musicians, with special thanks to the BR Team for their original assets.
