Deadly Smile – Jester

Deadly Smile: A Reworked Jester for Darkest Dungeon

The Jester, a staple of the Darkest Dungeon roster, receives a significant gameplay overhaul with the “Deadly Smile” mod. This modification aims to inject fresh strategic depth into the Jester’s kit, shifting his mechanics rather than simply tweaking his stats. The result is a Jester that feels both familiar and surprisingly new, demanding a different approach to team composition and combat tactics.

Evolving the Jester’s Arsenal

Deadly Smile reinterprets the Jester’s core abilities, offering players new ways to control the battlefield and support their party. Each of his skills has been reimagined to encourage more tactical decision-making.

Key Gameplay Changes

  • Solo’s Shifting Symphony: The Jester’s signature Solo ability now not only buffs his allies but also forces enemy repositioning, disrupting enemy formations and creating new offensive opportunities. Note that its Heroic End bonus has been reduced, necessitating careful timing.
  • Dirk Stab’s Revealing Strike: Gone are the days of stealthy enemies evading the Jester’s blade. Dirk Stab can now target and expose hidden foes, ensuring no enemy remains unseen for long.
  • Universal Bardic Music: Battle Ballad and Inspiring Tune are no longer restricted by the Jester’s position. This increased flexibility allows for more consistent buffing and stress relief, regardless of where your Jester finds himself on the battlefield.
  • Selfless Inspiration: The Jester can no longer use Inspiring Tune on himself, promoting greater reliance on his companions for personal stress management.
  • Slice Off’s Enduring Trauma: The potent bleed effect of Slice Off remains unchanged, continuing to apply significant damage over time.
  • Harvest’s Gruesome Reward: Harvest now deals massive damage to enemies already suffering from bleed, rewarding proactive bleed application rather than inflicting it directly.
  • The Jester’s Toll: After using Heroic End, the Jester gains a self-heal for stress but suffers a significant speed reduction and increased susceptibility to stress, adding a calculated risk to his ultimate performance.

Compatibility and Support

The Deadly Smile mod is designed to integrate seamlessly with your Darkest Dungeon experience. It supports the Color of Madness and Crimson Court expansions, offering enhanced gameplay for all players. Furthermore, the mod can be enjoyed even if you do not own these DLCs.
