Affliction Chance: Tipped Scales
Tipping the Scales: A Darkest Dungeon Mod for Balanced Afflictions and Virtues
The weight of the Darkest Dungeon can be overwhelming, and the psychological toll on your heroes is a significant challenge. If you’ve found the base game’s affliction and virtue system to be a bit too unforgiving, the “Affliction Chance: Tipped Scales” mod offers a subtle yet impactful adjustment, aiming to provide a more balanced experience without trivializing the inherent dangers.
Understanding the Tipped Scales
This mod directly addresses the probability of your heroes succumbing to stress or finding inner strength. By tweaking the core mechanics, “Tipped Scales” aims to create a more nuanced struggle against the encroaching madness. It’s designed for those who enjoy the challenge of managing stress but desire a slightly more favorable environment for achieving virtues.
Key Adjustments and Features
The “Affliction Chance: Tipped Scales” mod introduces several key changes to the game’s stress mechanics:
- Adjusted Base Chances: The base chance for a hero to gain an affliction has been reduced, while the base chance for a virtue has been increased. This shifts the odds slightly in your favor.
- Modified Chance Limits: The mod establishes a floor and ceiling for these probabilities. The minimum chance for either an affliction or a virtue is now set at 10%, and the maximum is capped at 90%.
- Trinket and Effect Interaction: While the new limits are in place, trinkets and other in-game effects that modify stress chances will still function. They can influence the probabilities, but they will always remain within the 10%-90% range.
Important Considerations and Exclusions
It’s important to note that not all heroes will experience these adjusted chances. The Flagellant, due to a unique class setting that ensures their specific “Rapturous” affliction, remains unaffected. Similarly, any custom classes that implement their own unique affliction or virtue systems will also be outside the scope of this mod. For compatibility with such custom classes, always refer to their individual mod pages.
Additionally, there are a couple of specific in-game scenarios that bypass these adjustments. During the Shieldbreaker’s nightmare-ambush sequence, she will always become afflicted. Furthermore, heroes who perish in the Farmstead’s endless mode will still return with the “Refracted” affliction, regardless of this mod’s presence.
For players concerned about save file integrity, “Affliction Chance: Tipped Scales” is designed to be safe for uninstallation mid-playthrough. Load order generally does not pose an issue, though placing it higher in your load order is recommended if you encounter any conflicts.
