Affliction Chance: Equilibrium

Affliction Chance: Equilibrium

Darkest Dungeon: Affliction Chance: Equilibrium Mod

The relentless descent into madness is a core element of the Darkest Dungeon experience, but for some, the existing balance of afflictions and virtues feels… unbalanced. If you find yourself yearning for a more measured approach to your heroes’ mental fortitude, or perhaps find that other mods tip the scales too far in one direction, the Affliction Chance: Equilibrium mod offers a compelling alternative.

A Delicate Balance Achieved

This mod meticulously reworks the fundamental probabilities governing your heroes’ descent into psychological distress or their ascent to resolute virtue. At its heart, Affliction Chance: Equilibrium sets both the base chance for an affliction and the base chance for a virtue to a precise 50%. This transforms a critical moment of stress into a true coin toss, where fate holds equal sway over despair and determination.

Constrained Extremes

While the 50/50 split provides the central equilibrium, the mod doesn’t eliminate the possibility of influence from other game mechanics. Trinkets, character quirks, and various in-game effects can still sway the odds. However, Affliction Chance: Equilibrium introduces hard caps, ensuring that the chance for either an affliction or a virtue will never fall below 10% or rise above 90%, regardless of stacking modifiers. This preserves a degree of strategic depth while preventing extreme outcomes.

Key Features of Equilibrium:

  • Equal base chances for Afflictions and Virtues (50% each).
  • Minimum chance for Affliction/Virtue set at 10%.
  • Maximum chance for Affliction/Virtue capped at 90%.
  • Preserves the impact of trinkets and effects within defined boundaries.

Special Considerations and Known Issues

It’s important to note that certain elements within Darkest Dungeon remain outside the purview of this mod’s balance. The Flagellant, due to specific class file programming, is unaffected and will always embrace their unique Rapturous affliction. Similarly, custom afflictions and virtues introduced by other class mods are not influenced by this mod, as they utilize independent systems. Players should consult the documentation for any custom classes regarding their unique affliction mechanics.

Additionally, there are a couple of specific scenarios where afflictions are guaranteed: the Shieldbreaker will always be afflicted during her nightmare-ambush sequence, and heroes who perish in the endless mode of the Farmstead will still return with the Refracted affliction.

The Affliction Chance: Equilibrium mod is designed for safe uninstallation mid-game, and its load order is generally flexible. This mod is compatible with all DLCs and a wide range of other modifications, including custom classes, inventory changes, cosmetic alterations, and overhaul mods.
