AI Conquest & Expansion Support for Civilization VI

Are your late-game Civilization VI matches feeling a bit predictable? Do you find yourself steamrolling weaker AI empires too quickly, leaving little room for grand strategic conflict? The AI Conquest & Expansion Support mod is designed to inject a much-needed dose of rivalry and emergent empires into your campaigns, fostering a more dynamic late game.

Forge Mighty Empires

This mod aims to rectify a common issue in Civilization VI: AI civilizations often struggle to expand effectively and maintain their conquests. Without significant external pressure or assistance, AI empires can remain relatively contained, allowing the player to surge ahead in technology and culture after conquering just a few rivals. This mod introduces mechanics that empower AI civilizations to engage in more meaningful territorial expansion and consolidation.

Key Gameplay Enhancements

The AI Conquest & Expansion Support mod introduces several key features to bolster AI military might and stability:

  • Siege Prowess: When an AI nation lays siege to another AI’s city, their military gains a stacking combat strength bonus against that city, capped at +20. This makes prolonged sieges more impactful.
  • Wear Down Defenses: Sieges will gradually degrade a city’s outer defenses, making them more vulnerable over time, without directly harming the defending garrison.
  • Naval Vulnerability: Coastal and water-adjacent cities present a weaker target, experiencing faster degradation of their outer defenses during sieges.
  • Loyalty Boost: Newly captured AI cities receive a temporary boost to their Loyalty, reducing the likelihood of immediate rebellion and helping the conquering AI solidify its gains.
  • Momentum Mechanics: Capturing a city provides a short-term Gold infusion and a minor heal to nearby military units, allowing the AI to sustain its offensive push.
  • Unit Prioritization: AI civilizations will show a slightly increased preference for producing melee, cavalry, siege, and naval melee units, encouraging more aggressive army compositions.

Focused AI Competition

It’s important to note that the benefits and changes introduced by this mod are strictly confined to wars waged between major AI civilizations. Players will not receive any bonuses when attacking AI empires, nor will AI empires gain advantages when targeting the player. City-states, Free Cities, and Barbarians are entirely unaffected by these mechanics. The mod does not force wars, prevent peace, automate annexations, or directly eliminate civilizations; it simply enhances the AI’s ability to wage war and hold territory when it chooses to do so.

Compatibility and Setup

This mod requires the Civilization VI: Gathering Storm ruleset to be active. It is designed to be compatible with other popular AI modification suites such as War and Fortress Rework, Morale and Siege, RomanHoliday’s AI Rework, and Late Game AI. The mod operates independently, avoiding conflicts with the core behavior trees of other AI mods. For optimal performance, it is recommended to restart Civilization VI and begin a new game after enabling this mod.
